Arctic Ocean / Midnight Sun Adventure

In the far north of Alaska on the tundra swept arctic coastal plain the sun sets for last time in mid-May, when it comes back up minutes later it does so until the end of July giving this land 2 and a half months of continuous sunshine, making it truly the Land of the Midnight Sun. As such, the beautiful aurora borealis cannot be seen until late August when night sky returns.

The Arctic Ocean Tour is fully refundable up until one week before it departs. After that time it is not refundable.

Take a three day guided excursion with photographic opportunities through Alaska's northern wilderness by land on the famous Dalton Highway and by air linking Fairbanks, AK with Alaska's arctic.
Ground Tour North / Fly South
Tour Summary:
  • Day 1: Ground tour north of Fairbanks on historic gold mining roads before reaching the famous Dalton Highway. Cross the mighty Yukon River and stop to dip your toe in her majestic waters. On your way towards crossing the Arctic Circle at the official sign stop and at Finger Mountain and enjoy the views of the finger rock.  Cross the Arctic Circle and wrap up the day as you approach the glorious Brook Range mountains with end the day with clean but rustic authentic Coldfoot accommodations. 
  • Day 2:  Visit the historic gold mining village of Wiseman. Climb up and through the heart of the Brooks Mountain range and cross the continental divide at Atigun Pass, the highest pass in Alaska.  Decedent down the north slope and end the day in the next to the oil fields at Prudhoe Bay.
  • Day 3: Take a special tour beyond the security checkpoint directly into the oil fields and to the shores of the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay.  Dip your toe in the ocean or if you are brave enough, do the polar bear plunge. Fly by air back to Fairbanks.
  • Departs day 1 at 8:30am and returns by air on day 3 between 12:30 and 4:00pm. 
  • Summer 2019 Rate: $1339 per person based on double occupancy. $200 extra for a single (private room verse  2 person shared room).

Fly North / Ground Tour South
Tour Summary:
  • Day 1: Fly north to Deadhorse and take a special tour beyond the security checkpoint directly into the oil fields and to the shores of the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay.  Dip your toe in the ocean or if you are brave enough, do the polar bear plunge.
  • Day 2:  Drive south across the arctic coastal plain.  Climb up and through the heart of the Brooks Mountain range and cross the continental divide at Atigun Pass, the highest pass in Alaska.  Decedent down the south slope of the mountains until you reach Coldfoot for your over night stay.
  • Day 3: Visit the historic gold mining village of Wiseman. Cross the Arctic Circle at the official sign. Continue south and enjoy the views of the area and Finger Rock at Finger Mountain. Cross the mighty Yukon River and stop to dip your toe in her majestic waters. Ground tour south from the Yukon River on the last 56 miles of the famous Dalton highway before following the network of historic gold mining roads back into Fairbanks.
  • Departs day 1 by air at 7:00 am and returns by land on day 3 between approximately between 8 and 9:00 pm. 
  • Summer 2019 Rate: $1139 per person based on double occupancy. $200 extra for a single (private room verse  2 person shared room).

Additional Tour Options in Coldfoot - take place on your evening in Coldfoot in either direction.

Koyukuk River Float
  • Enjoy a gentle float ride down the Middle Fork of the Koyukuk River on the length between Wiseman and Coldfoot. 
  • Summer 2019 Rate: $119 per person
Anatuvuk Pass Adventure
  • Enjoy a scenic flight through the central Brooks Range and Gates of the Arctic National Park to the village of Anatuvuk Pass, a Ninumuit Eskimo Village.
  • Summer 2019 Rate: $229 per person. We typically do not charge for Anatuvak Pass at the time of booking.

Utqiagvik or Barrow Extension
  • Rather than travel beyond security at Prudhoe Bay to visit the Arctic Ocean, take a flight to the Eskimo village of Utqiagvik. Walk along the shores of the Arctic Ocean and learn about the traditional lifestyle of the people of the village during your guided ground tour.
  • ​Summer 2019 Rate: $649 per person in addition to the main tour price.
