Aurora Chasing Photography Tour

Aurora Chase Details:
August 21st - April 21st
9-10 pm - Pick up
3-4:00 am  - Return time.
  • Depart from and return to Fairbanks, Alaska.
  • Daily tours, reservations required due to limited capacity.
  • The northern lights has a strong tendency to be most active around solar midnight, 2 am AKDT & 1 am AKST, so we design your tour around that time.
  • Chase the aurora away from the bright city lights in our warm tour van to one or more of our favorite hand-picked aurora photography/viewing locations based on favorable viewing conditions. We typically chase within 100 miles of Fairbanks, but have gone as far as 200 miles in extreme cases when required to find the aurora. We are serious about getting you the northern lights.
  • We conduct extensive research prior to your tour to help us find the best viewing location(s) on any night using resources not limited to: real-time satellite weather imaging, live spaceweather data, multiple weather models, ground-based weather cameras, night sky cameras, weather station data, and so forth. We carry Starlink internet for an extra safety layer, and so we can check relevant data on the fly to best find the aurora even when we travel out of cell range to remote locations.
  • Learn detailed scientific information about how and why the aurora occures in a small group setting, max of 10.
  • View the aurora borealis and learn how to take photos of the aurora with your Alaskan Guide on your mirrorless or DSLR camera, with hands-on help as needed to find the correct exposure settings.
  • Take the time to look up at the stars of the universe, identify a couple of constellations, perhaps see a shooting star, and gaze upwards as we chase the northern lights!
  • For photography enthusiasts and for all visitors who are serious about aurora borealis viewing.
  • *Aurora Portrait - single frame, lightly edited, aurora portrait suitable for online use and printing. The person will be in focus.  This is an optional add-on.
  • **Tour includes hotel pick-up and drop-off
*Aurora portraits are contingent upon weather and aurora conditions.
**Pick up and drop off are offered for hotels in the core Fairbanks area.

Tour Cancellation Policy

If the cancellation request is made more than one month before the tour date, your booking is fully refundable. Within a month of your tour date, we have a no-cancellation / no-refund policy. If we choose to cancel your tour, for example, due to extreme winter weather, you will receive a full refund. We are very successful at finding the northern lights, but ultimately, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature for space weather and Earth weather. We do not cancel for cloudy forecasts or slow aurora forecasts because we have found with our “chasing” format that even if the weather forecast for Fairbanks is cloudy, we typically can drive to weather more suitable for viewing. Aurora forecasts generally can’t be accurately made more than 1 hour into the future - yes, they are made up to 27 days out, but beyond an hour out, they have a low degree of accuracy and are commonly misinterpreted. In the unlikely event that you do not get to see the aurora on your tour, per our discretion, you may book another tour that departs no later than 30 days after your initial tour at no cost as a “standby” guest. We have a no-refund policy within one month of the tour date, so if you need to be covered for this time frame, please buy travelers’ insurance ahead of time.
